About

The National Casting Center comprises of two comprehensive facilities specializing in Metal and Glass Casting.

Directed by Professor of Sculpture, Coral Lambert in Metals and Associate Professor of Sculpture, Karen Donnellan in Glass.

As a part of the Sculpture Dimensional Studies Division, Sophomore through Graduate Level students can overlap disciplines, concepts and techniques.

Students are encouraged to push their practice into new territories whilst learning about the historical context of materials and process. They study ancient techniques alongside environmental practices and current digital processes. They gain experience in running the facilities providing them with valuable working knowledge upon graduation.

The Foundry comprises of furnaces to melt iron, bronze and aluminum. Processes include Sand Molding, Ceramic Shell, Centrifugal Casting, Wax and Plasticine pattern making. There is an adjoining Metal Fabrication Shop including a walk in sand blaster and patina booth.

The Glass Casting area includes heat recovery glory holes with a full range of state of the art kilns and finishing tools.
